What should have been a simple life in the desert sand and stars becomes anything but. Haunted by dreams of a life of violence, and seeking answers as to why, Peridot and her friends find themselves caught in an ancient battle between Light and Dark...and find that the cost of being a soldier is higher than they might have ever thought.
To look back on it now, I can see they did the best they could. They earned their happiness, and even if it cost them some old dreams, well...
There's always time to pick up new ones.
Eight months later...
Celestial: Peri? ...must have fallen asleep already.
Celestial: *heavy sigh* Busy day...at least we're ready for you, baby. You'll be here any day now and...well, I say we're ready, but...Celestial: But you know...that's okay. You deserve to be a handful. You deserve to go running out there, and explore everything that life has to offer you. Take chances, try everything...fall eight times, get up nine.
Celestial: You know why? Because we'll always be here to catch you if you fall too far. A safe place to land, your Mom and me. So go out there and do everything you ever dream of doing.
Celestial: Can't say we won't worry...or drive you up the wall sometimes, but...we'll always have your back. That I can promise you.
Celestial: You're gonna love life, kiddo. You have no idea how much.
Peridot: Oh, she'll be able to guess.
Celestial: Shoot, I didn't mean to wake you.
Peridot: S'okay. *yawn* I wasn't really asleep.
Celestial: You sound like you were.
Peridot: Eh, dozing. I'm glad I didn't miss that little speech, though. If you ever wanted to be sure you weren't going to turn out like Frosted, well. There you go.
Celestial: Heh...I guess so.
Peridot: Hey. Come here.Peridot: --mm!! Cel stop--!!
Celestial: What happened? Are you-did I--
Peridot: No, you're fine, just--agh--my water just broke.
Celestial: ?! What?!
Peridot: My water just broke. She's coming tonight. The clinic...
Dr. Holiday: That's it. Deep breaths, Peridot, deep breaths. Everyone's okay.
Peridot: If you...say so! Okay ow!
Dr. Holiday: Don't try and stop the contractions, just ride them out. They're coming faster by the minute...
Peridot: Couldn't...stop them if I wanted to!
Fern: We haven't even been here an hour!
Peri: I could...do with...slowing down a bit!
Citrine: Doctor is this normal? I was in labor for seven hours before Peri was born!
Dr. Holiday: It's not abnormal, just uncommon for first time carriers. Deep breaths, Peridot, you're alright. This little one is just very impatient.
Peri: Takes after her Daddy! Oof....
Fern: You're okay, baby, just breathe. It'll be over soon.
Peridot: It better be! Oooh...I'm not doing this again! Nope, no way!
Citrine: *exasperated chuckle* I bet you're not!
Dr. Holiday: I can see the head.
Fern: Already?!
Dr. Holiday: Yep! Be ready to give me one big push, Peridot!
*sounds from the other room*
Celestial: This is happening quickly. Too quickly. Something's not right.
Celestial: No, this can't be right. Something's wrong, I know it!
Calcite: Cel, son, settle down. Everything's fine.
Celestial: You don't know that! You can't know that!
Calcite: Yes, I do. And yes, I can.
Celestial: How?
*baby crying*
Calcite: That's how.
Citrine: Oh...congratulations, Peri...she's beautiful.
Celestial: What does she look like? Can you...describe her, please?
Calcite: She has your colors.
Nova: And Peri's nose. *laugh* She's beautiful.
Cel: Of course she is. She's Peri's.Peridot: Hey, you had a part in her, too!
Fern: *laugh* You two. How're you feeling, sweety?
Peridot: Tired...very, very, very tired.
Citrine: Oof, I bet! Watcher, I'm so proud of you...
Peridot: I know, Mom. I know.
Calcite: Did you two pick out a name already?
Celestial: Welcome home, Mari.
Some time later...
Peridot: I can't get over how perfect she is...
Peridot: She looks so much like you, Cel...she's got your smile already!
Celestial: *chuckle* And your nose, apparently.
Peridot: That I don't see. Yet.
Celestial: *laugh* but she's healthy? All four limbs, ten fingers and toes?
Peridot: And a perfect little nose...she's beautiful.
Celestial: Of course she is. She's yours.
Peridot: Oh, stop that. Don't sell yourself short. You're a looker yourself, you know.
Celestial: Heh, nothing like you.
Peridot: Oh, hush. Girls take after their donors, and especially if they're male donors. She's going to look so much like you when she grows up...
Celestial: I'll take your word for it.
Celestial: ...Per, can I ask you something?
Peridot: Sure? What--*gasp*
Celestial: Will you marry me? Again?
Peridot: Cel--
Celestial: I know you said you didn't need a fancy wedding, or paperwork, or anything for us to be who we are, but...I want it to be official.
Celestial: I want to be your husband, to take on your name, and always stand beside you wherever life takes us next. Will you do me the honor of letting me be your husband?Peridot: Oh, Cel...only if you do me the honor of letting me be your wife.
Celestial: In a heartbeat.
Celestial: You know something? Back then, before we were Chosen...I was so sure it'd be you and me at the end.
Peridot: What, when we were kids the first time? How could you tell?
Celestial: There was just...something about you. How your smile lit up the room. How you cared for everyone around you, and put yourself between them and harm.
Celestial: You were the bravest, most reckless person I ever met, and I loved you for it even when I was too little to understand how much.
Peridot: Cel...you're making me sound like some kind of superhero.
Celestial: You are. You're my superhero.
Peridot: Oh, Cel.
Peridot: You've always been my superman. I remember your parents back then, the life you had...being a Guardian was easier, but you still soldiered on through with a smile. That resilience...your courage, and your kindness...that's what I fell for.Peridot: I fell for it then, and I fell for it now. So yes...I will happily, proudly, call you my husband. My partner.
Celestial: Partners. In life, and beyond.
Peridot: Always.
🎶
Let it go
Let it roll right off your shoulder
🎶
Don't you know?
The hardest part is over
🎶
Let it in
Let your clarity define you
🎶
In the end
We will only just remember how it feels
🎶
Our lives are made
In these small hours
🎶
These little wonders
These twists and turns of fate
🎶
Time falls away
But these small hours
🎶
These small hours
Still remain
🎶
Let it slide
Let your troubles fall behind you
🎶
Let it shine
'Til you feel it all around you
🎶
And I don't mind
If it's me you need to turn to
🎶
We'll get by
It's the heart that really matters in the end
🎶
Our lives are made
In these small hours
🎶
These little wonders
These twists and turns of fate
🎶
Time falls away
But these small hours
🎶
These small hours
Still remain
All of my regret
Will wash away somehow
But I cannot forget
The way I feel right now
In these small hours
These little wonders
These twists and turns of fate
Yeah, these twists and turns of fate
Oh, they still remain
These little wonders
Oh, these twists and turns of fate
Time falls away
🎶
But these small hours
These little wonders
Still remain...

Ori: They seem happy.
Lucera: They are. You have no idea how much so.
Ori: *chuckle* Oh, I can guess. So, what now?
Lucera: Now, they live. Without our battles to shadow their lives, they get to live...and I could not be more grateful. Thank you for holding the gate, Brother. For letting me give them a chance.
Ori: Hey, what else is family for? But, uh, that's...not going to be needed again, is it?
Lucera: No, not for quite some time. Obscuro is once again sealed away, and the Key of their line has been broken. I cannot speak to other lines, but the Crystals...they are safe from the Shadow.
Ori: Oh, good. *sigh* Welp. Time to go.
Lucera: So it is. Farewell, my Guardians.Lucera: May we never meet again.
later, in a world beyond the realms....
Lucera: Have you settled down yet, brother?
*door shuts*
Lucera: ....well, the silence is telling. *sigh* Honestly, Obscuro...why do you insist on doing this still? Surely you must realize--
Obscuro: You cannot keep me here forever.
Lucera: ...no i suppose you have yet to realize--
Obscuro: There will always be Darkness! There will always be others who seek my power! I will be free!
Obscuro: And when I am, your precious Guardians will die!
Lucera: ...not this time. They live a life beyond us both now, brother. It is time to let this go. Mother waits for us both.
bscuro: Let go--let go?! This is all her fault!
Lucera: *sigh* And so we play the same roles once more. No, Obscuro. The blame is not entirely hers. You made your decisions as well.
Lucera: And until you can accept that--
Obscuro: I accept nothing! Nothing but the power that is owed to me! Do you hear me Mother! I will have your powers, one way or another!!!
Obscuro: I will be the Creator of all things! The worlds will bow to me and only me!
Lucera: ...and you still understand nothing.
Lucera: There is no point to this. We will try again, in time. *sigh* Goodnight, brother.
Obscuro: I will be free of this place someday! You cannot destroy the Darkness, Lucera! Do you hear me!
Obscuro: One day, I will be free!
*door slams shut*
